#TakeCover

The Seattle Storm came to RARE Design in 2019 wanting a brand that better connected them to Seattle and reflected their reputation as four-time WNBA Champions. Originally owned by the same family that owned the now-defunct Seattle SuperSonics, the Storm’s previous look was heavily inspired by their NBA counterpart and never really had an identity of it’s own.

We combined inspiration from the Seattle’s Futurist architecture, Mt. Rainier hiking patches, and the team’s name to create a strikingly simple identity that brings the Storm into the modern era.

I created the illustration of the space needle used in the primary logo as well as the overall architecture and aesthetic of the primary patch, incorporating a basketball & a subtle nod to Mt. Rainier. In addition to my contribution of design for the brand, I helped develop the team’s overall positioning as well as the ‘Take Cover’ tagline used during the launch.
